  • Research Interests:

    The formation, transport, and emplacement of partially molten rocks on the earth's crust. In particular, the storage conditions and rates of processes of magmas below active volcanoes. Methods: (1) Petrology of igneous rocks: from the polarizing microscope to (sub)micron elemental and isotopic compositions of minerals and glass (electron microprobe, EBSD, FTIR, ion microprobe, LA-ICP-MS). (2) phase equilibria experiments to determine magmas intensive variables pressure, temperature, volatile fugacities. (3) kinetic experiments to determine diffusion coefficients in minerals. (4) numerical modeling of processes including the chemical reequilibration of mineral zoning to determine the rates of magmatic processes.
